A driver was on the run after fleeing the scene of the crash at the St Lukes on-ramp just after 8pm on Tuesday night.

 

But Senior Sergeant Danny Meade of Auckland Central police says information gleaned from the car's passenger lace embroidery patches, who was taken into police custody, led them to make an arrest.

 

A 17-year-old was arrested in west Auckland, several kilometres from the crash scene, about two hours after the crash.

 

He and the 18-year-old passenger will appear in Auckland District Court on Wednesday.

The driver of the stolen car took the St Lukes off-ramp and carried on over the intersection with St Lukes Road onto the on-ramp.
